Hello from Colorado… and welcome to my blog!
On top of the world on Mt. Bierstadt – 14,060 feet above sea level
Life is sure moving quickly and after moving to Colorado, I decided to document the journey. I arrived in Denver in September of 2009 and moved into an apartment downtown. I’d always wanted to live downtown and what better way to get to know a new city than to live in the heart of it? Before downtown Denver I was living in San Diego for 14 months. Before then I was living in Massachusetts for college. Before then? The MV Explorer – a cruise ship turned floating university. And before then? Rohnert Park, California and finally, before then, my hometown in Northern California.
Sometimes I joke that I have city commitment issues. Sometimes I don’t think it’s a joke.
After graduating with my BA in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts in 2008 I headed for the beach! Literally. I packed up my life and drove across the country back to California (with my car packed down, my dad, little brother and dog!) My 14-month stay in Southern California was fun-filled and quite the learning experience and I think if anything, it prepared me to start life completely over in beautiful Denver.
I chose Denver randomly and on a whim. I had spent a few days in Breckenridge a few months prior and had fallen in love with Breck and the mountains that hovered over the town. I had heard from locals that once you move to Colorado you never leave. I blindly made the decision to move and I think it was one of the greatest decisions I’ve ever made. Starting over isn’t easy, but it’s often necessary and it certainly was for me. I was ready for a change and to see what else life had in store for me. When I left California (just a couple weeks after I made the decision I was on my way) I was excited, scared, anxious and hopeful.
Follow along as I sort through those emotions, continue to learn about this city, fall in love with this state and (attempt to) thrive on my own.
I can’t promise I’ll be entertaining but I can promise to keep you updated on what I’m up to now and to give you a little insight into what life is like in Colorado.
